The Origin Story
The summer of 2016 was a wild time for the NBA as the salary cap rose significantly, leading to outrageous deals across the league. This was also the summer when Richie Randall began writing for Queen City Hoops of the now-defunct TrueHoop Network. Although he had been a fan since the mid-90s, this was the first time he was covering the team from the perspective of an analyst. Alongside Spencer Percy, they were striving to keep QCH afloat, but they both knew that the era of blogging was coming to an end. As the season began, Spencer approached Richie with the idea of a podcast for Hornets coverage, and they released their first episode in November of 2016.
At first, it was under the name of QCH Podcast before they were approached by the Almighty Baller Network, a site dedicated to basketball-related podcasts. Then, they changed their name to Buzz Beat and have been picking up steam ever since.
Their release schedule was sporadic at first, and they didn’t really hit their stride until about three years into their journey. They were uncertain how long it would last, but with the help of new additions (Brian, Lee, Darian, Matt, and James) over the years, they managed to produce more and more episodes.
Although other Hornets podcasts exist, we believe that Buzz Beat offers the most balanced and analytical perspective on the Hornets.
